one after the other. just like herringbone.

The weekend started out nice and normal. Friday we had some delicious pizza with Anna, Jason & Clara at Queens in downtown Mesa. We'll definitely be going back there, and you should go too.

But then...

Saturday came. Along with it came another car accident and resulting bumps, blood, bruises and burns on my arms & leg. Oh yeah, and a pretty messed up car.

I was driving on a curved freeway overpass when one of my tires blew out. The car spun around and had a not-so-nice encounter with the concrete barrier. At this point, I was positive the Honda and I were going over the edge and falling to our death... but we didn't. The windshield shattered and both air bags deployed; one of them punched me in the face. Now I was certain the car was on fire...but it wasn't. And this is where it gets slightly funny: I opened the door, rolled out and ran away so I wouldn't burn. Better safe than sorry, right?

So there I was, standing in the middle of the freeway lane - shaking and bleeding and totally traumatized. I'm thankful for the nice people who stopped to calm me down and help me, the firefighters who wrapped me up, the paramedics who left when I refused to go to the hospital, and the cop who drove me home when my husband didn't answer the phone. (sidenote: you should have seen Clint when I stumbled inside all beat up.)

I walked away with some chemical burns (from the airbags), cuts and bruises on my arms along with an enormous bump on my shin. My body is really sore today -- but of course, it could have been worse. Mostly it was just scary and maybe I never ever want to drive again.

Thanks for caring about me friends and family. My house is looking more and more like a flower garden, and that cheers me up.

  1. You should see the look of horror on my face right now. I am so glad you are ok! Car accidents are my worst nightmare...being trapped inside a burning vehicle is pretty much on the very bottom of my list of ways to die. Aaron got in one a few weeks ago and I didn't sleep for days.

I have to admit to laughing at the thought of you rolling away from your car though. It's totally something I would have done too, but with my luck I would have rolled into traffic or off the overpass.

    I'm sending you mental flowers.

  3. After my accident I decided I need a chauffeur. Ryan will have to do for now, but when I'm old and gray - it's chauffeur time for me. Maybe they'll even have to call me Mrs. Kathryn or something fancy.

I hope you can close your eyes without reliving the accident over and over soon enough.

We are thankful you are ok.

  10. Your public demands a picture of your arm without the bandages. Let the burn ooze flow!

  17. OH MY GOSH! This post started out so nice and innocent, and then BAM! You almost died. I'm so glad you didn't. Your accident sounds so awful, and I am still not fully over the trauma of mine (which was not near as bad, from the sounds of things!), so...I can only guess how wretched it is.

I bet Clint felt bad he didn't answer.

  23. Herringbone!!!!!

My favorite type of taping for fine quality mens golf shirts, and my favorite type of ceiling pattern in Santa Fe style homes, especially when created with saguaro cactus "bones".

Also, maybe we should get you a Nomex race drivers suit and crash helmet for your Birthday.

As for a new vehicle, Hummers are very safe and cheap these days.

    Love, Dad

  28. oh dear. this is just too much! i am sure you were terrified and i'm glad you came out of it okay. thank heavens.

i had a skid mark up my nose from an airbag once... not fun. they prevent major injuries but cause minor ones.

    i hope you are well.
