the stillness that makes you shake.

Solana Beach 2009 | Blake Family Vacation
Another summer, another beach vacation with Clint's extended family. They're so awesome.

In addition to the usual time spent relaxing, reading, and visiting, we headed up to LA for a day. We spent a couple hours in Silver Lake, and later used our VIP tickets to the Tonight Show. Conan rocks.

It was a nice break, but am I the only person in the world who gets bored of the beach after two hours?

  1. I am truly jealous that you went to see Conan. Which show was it? Who were the guests and who performed? I will go to a show. I wanted to go someday when he was in New York, but it will be even easier now.

  2. Really? Only 2 hrs? I could spend weeks on the beach.

    How fun to see conan.

  3. We went on Tuesday the 23th. Lisa Kudrow and the Pitchmen (infomercial guys) were the guests, and Elvis Costello performed. Wilco was the guest for Wednesday which would have been more awesome.

  4. I'm so with you. When we did our family vacation to the Bahamas last year we spent most of the time on the water slides at Atlantis and very little time at the actual beach. I think we spent 40 minutes total over the course of a week on the sand.

    Your swimsuits are super cute.

  5. Mothers of four little children never get bored on the beach. Either you are paranoid about someone drowning, or you are there without your kids and you are asleep. It's just true. My dream vacation is me on a beach in Fiji with a cold drink in my hand. For at least a week.

And how fun to see Conan. He can make me laugh just by looking at him (although I could do without Elvis Costello).

  6. It all depends what you're doing on the beach and where the beach is.

  7. there's an open invitation for you to join us in frisbee toss. that activity alone can provide substantive entertain for at least two hours. then there's always whiffle ball, volley ball, paddle ball, sand castles, collecting sea shells, walks, reading, naps, chasing nieces and nephews, burying grandpa steve and giving his protruding head an improportionately small sand body, pretending you're in Tatooine, watching that crazy homeless lady steal people's melted icecream, chat, avoid falling rocks, discuss shark attacks, pee on jelly fish stings, ask Cherryl about her most recent public embarrassment, discuss the balke's love-life, put fake letters in bottles and throw them in the ocean dimitri martin-style, people watch, play "who's most likely. . . ?", make fake peppery facial hair by wetting your face and dotting the sand on your cheeks, get tan, avoid the sun, etc.

beach fun is proportionate to one's desire to have it.

  10. I'm with you... As much as I love the beach, two hours is enough for me. I always need to be doing something. I can't stay in one spot for too long!
