suddenly i see.

I've been wearing my new glasses off and on for the past few weeks. It's quite nice being able to read road signs while driving and notice all the leaves on trees. On the other hand, sometimes it can be a little disconcerting to see so many details everywhere -- mostly because it makes me realize I'm a little closer to being blind* than I ever knew.

I thought I would really love having glasses, but it turns out they just make me feel sorta ugly and claustrophobic and I have a hard time talking to people without feeling like I'm hiding behind something. And everything starts to feel strangely like a dream whenever I wear them...

Maybe I'll get used to them at some point?

*Going blind is one of my biggest fears. Also, my eyes aren't very bad at all (yet).

  1. I love those on you.

I also fully agree with the claustrophobia and hiding behind something. I was disappointed after wearing my glasses at first.

It's crazy how we think alike.

  2. I know what you mean. I wore contacts only for years before I started wearing glasses full time. You look so cute! It feels like I'm behind a mask sometimes.

  3. wow. those must be some exceptionally powerful glasses if they allow you to see trees while driving through arizona. maybe you're looking all the way to california. or into another dimension.

  7. The first thing I thought when I saw your picture was how pretty those glasses are on you! The light flecks at the top of the frame are lovely, and they make your eyes look sparkly! Hope you're having a great weekend!

  10. So would you rather be blind or ugly? Oh wait, you don't have to be either b/c you look lovely in your glasses. (The feeling of claustorphia, can't help you out there).

  11. I've had glasses since the 4th grade - yes, proud member of the Emerson Eagles glasses club. But, I still don't know if I'm "used" to them. I feel like a different person when I wear my glasses versus my contacts. I love having contacts and I love having glasses and then are such a big blessing, but, I dream for the day when nothing is needing.

  17. The eye doctor always tells Alex she is in danger of retina detachement and blindness, and to pay attention for black spots in her vision. That is how bad her eyes are.

  18. Love them! I've always had perfect vision but I've also always secretly wished for glasses. I remember in elementary school lying on an eye exam hoping they would give me glasses. Didn't work but it was worth a try.

  19. it's gotta help knowing you look adorable in them. where did you find those glasses?

  21. those are the cutest glasses ever!!! i tried on some fakers at the mall and loved them. you look smokin' hot in the girl!

  22. I totally know how you feel. I never wear my glasses. Seriously! I even just bought new ones thinking that maybe if I liked them better I would maybe wear them more. NOPE not true. I still just wear my contacts all day from the moment I wake up until I lay down. Most my friends don't even know I have contacts because they haven't ever seen me in glasses.

    Fishing for complements...

  25. hey, annonymous, if you're going to be critical of someone on their personal blog, you should at least have the guts to identify yourself.

just like this: i'm clint. and i think you're a jackass.

  26. and you spelled compliment wrong.

  27. I think they're great! Which frames did you choose? I'm thinking about getting the 'Miles'

  28. it's okay, i think anonymous is funny. and it's even more funny when my husband sticks up for me and uses the word jackass. ha!

s - i went with zagg. but i love miles! i just wanted the combo of tortoise/crystal, which wasn't an option. warby parker has so many great choices it's hard to go wrong! (although i tried wiloughby first and they looked too masculine).

  29. i'm so annoyed that my comment isn't here. because i swear i commented. anyway i have always wanted to have bad eyes just to have glasses because i think they are so cute. then when i was in college i bought some fake ones that totally looked real. and i felt just like you! like i was hiding behind something and i always had the urge to take them off. you look so cute though, i love your eyes.

i laughed so hard at clints comment to anonymous.

do did you get your package? still trying to figure out the best way to send them because i worry so much that by the time they get to customers... they are a bit smashed. was it?

  32. They are sooo cute! I'm afraid I may have to visit the eye doc soon. I've been getting by with cheapo reading glasses and a pair here and there from Anthro. But now, my eyes are really blurry in the mornings and take forever before I'm able to really focus enough to read or even look at the computer at work. Boo.

  34. They look adorable on you, Angela!

  35. They are so cute on you! I know what you mean about feeling claustro, though. I got glasses when I was five, and I distinctly remember that feeling. Now, 20 years later, I can't imagine not wearing them every day.

Warbys are so cute and fun -- I like the pair you picked out. I'm dying for some of my own...

  36. You'll get used to it! I love your glasses so much I tried to go and get a pair for myself only to find them out of stock. Boo!

  37. When I wear my glasses people usually go, "Oh my god, you're wearing glasses!" They also make me feel dreamy and claustrophobic like. My biggest fear is going blind, too. Maybe it's an artist thing.

Oh, as you been told, so cute in glasses!
