you try to feel the beat.

Yeah, I've been wearing a lot of skirts lately due to a recent battle trying to find jeans that fit right. I lost, by the way.

I went for a nice long run outside tonight. It was really windy so my pace was probably twice as slow. Then, about fifteen minutes in my iPod battery died during this song, right after the lyrics "you're using your headphones to drown out your mind." Ironic, much? I took it as a not-so-gentle nudge that maybe exactly what I needed was to focus on my thoughts, my breathing, and the comforting rhythm that comes with feet pounding pavement.

And it was. Actually, it felt amazing. As much as I love my music, I could use a run like that every once in a while.

  1. I'm on night TWO of half marathon training (pray for me) and that wind was killer. It felt good but at the same time it sort of made me feel like I was moving backward.

    Pretty skirt!

  2. Hey, Skinny.

Laugh all you want, but I totally thought the waistband of your skirt was your stomach when I first saw that picture.

I need a favor from you; expect a call from me tomorrow. Answer at your own risk. :)

  5. I lost that battle, too. The pants silhouette this year really does not consider body types, it's atrocious. I bought 2 skirts for the very first time this year:) Where do you find your gorgeous waist-high A lines? I had to order mine online.

I've been waiting and waiting, and feel a little silly that I didn't know the album was out! Lucky you for having an in!! They are so good it kills me. :)

  7. Running without music is beyond therapeutic for me, it's like meditation. I love hearing nothing but my own breathing, it helps clear my mind.

Love that skirt by the way!

  8. Oooh I have that skirt! Its one of my favorites right now. When the picture was loading and I read the first sentences I thought I'd been wearing a lot of skirts for the same reason too and that skirt came to mind. So funny.

I love when I turn off my headphones and listen to birds chirping and all the other city noises around me. Sometimes that's much better than hiding behind my music.

  9. when i first started running, i never listened to music. instead i meditated a lot on whether or not i should marry that gregg guy.

i listen to music now when i have less to study out in my mind. but even then, i'll find myself not paying attention to my music.

    running is my catharsis.

i'm just getting into running. i was able to do 30 minutes on the treadmill yesterday and it felt like such a huge accomplishment--i used to do 3 and be spent!

  14. i also thought that was your waist..teehee.

I just ran the two oceans in Cape Town, with no music, and it was so cool to listen to 14 000 people pounding the hills. I thought of everything and nothing. Enjoy the weekly quiet!

  17. What a lovely outfit!

I feel you on jeans. They're much more difficult. Skirts/dresses are the way to go. :)

  24. I can't find jeans that fit me right, either. I've resigned myself to the fact if I want perfect-fitting jeans, I'm going to have to go to a tailor.

    I love that skirt!

  26. I live in skirts for the same reason, am running a lot recently in the hope of fitting into my old jeans... I literally only need to loose an inch but its tough!

  27. Running requires me to have a good beat pumping in my ears, but I think you might be onto something with actually having some time to just think. I don't do that nearly enough.

  29. I kind of think about this post every time I go for a run. It really is so therapeutic to hear my feet on the pavement and listen to my breathing.

Also, I wish you were my personal shopper, because once again your outfit is stunning.
