there will be snacks.

Pomegranates are awesome. They're a bit of a pain to de-seed, but their little burst of flavor is worth it. I picked some up the other day and decided to combine a few things to make this simple and delicious snack.

pomegranate berry salad
pomegranate arils
strawberries
raspberries
cucumbers
mint leaves
feta cheese

----

I thought it would have been funny to announce the good news by photographing my raw food meals as usual, and instead of the typical healthy things there'd be the only stuff I could keep down during the first few months of pregnancy: Taco Bell, Sour Punch straws, In-N-Out, crackers, macaroni and cheese. Gross, I know. I'm SO grateful to be enjoying fruits and vegetables again.

  1. This post makes me happy. I'm due March 9 and lived on Taco Bell, In n Out, and Mac n Cheese for awhile. Now I look forward to my nightly salads. Best of luck to you and that salad looks delicious. I will have to try it.

  3. I love pomegranates!!! That salad looks amazing! And while Taco Bell is certainly disgusting, at least there's a nice comforting quality to Mac & Cheese.

  4. I had some really horrible cravings with Audrey. That's why I gained 50 pounds. No lie! But I think the body knows it needs fats that early on so that's why we crave those things.

I love pomegranates, but they are a huge pain to prepare. I like to sprinkle the arils into my oatmeal and yogurt.

  10. Your salad is pretty. But why knock my regular foods?! We used to have a pomegranate tree in our yard when I was a kid. We loved to pick them and eat them.

  15. pomegranates are a huge part of my culture. I look forward to their arrival every year. We have a tree that is full of them. I have been giving the seeds to my two year old and she surprisingly cant get enough. My grandma showed me a really easy way to cut and peal a pom, and it has changed my life!

  18. Taco Bell is not gross. I almost went there for lunch. But alas, I decided to save my eating out for this weekend and ate some of my soup. I'm still enjoying it... for the fourth day in a row. :)

  26. I think you should have photographed some beautiful burgers and sour patch straws for us. It's nice to know that you are normal and not a super-raw-mega-bot all the time. :) And your belly is the cutest I've seen in awhile.
