one year old.

Happy 1st birthday Margo! I can't quite figure out how this day arrived so quickly, but here it is and here we are. We made it through the first year of her life and came out with smiles all around.

Early this morning we filled up her crib with balloons. She thought it was just about the coolest thing and was even entranced enough to let me put that big pom-pom party headband on (of course now she wants absolutely nothing to do with it). She also learned how to sing "happy, happy..." so now she can join in at her birthday celebration happening later this weekend.

How we love this little girl. She looks so much like her dad but might have more of my personality — particular, dramatic, and a bit feisty. At 12 months old Margo is:
- standing on her own and occasionally brave enough to take a step or two
- repeating all kinds of words, some much more coherent than others
- still quite the unpredictable napper
- obsessed with her grandmas, riding her ladybug around the house, the animal alphabet poster in her room and a couple specific books, sitting in chairs, dancing to music with dad, and staring out our big windows all the time

It's been a wild and wonderful first year.

  14. oh my goodness. This is the most adorable photo shoot! I love the colors and basically everything about it! Especially the "happy birthday" decoration! It'd be too big for me to do on my Cricut, which is how I do most things like that, but for something that cute, I'd probably be willing to hand-cut! How did you do it/where did you get it?

    1. thanks! for the happy birthday banner, i cut it out by hand (with xacto knife) on large sheets of black paper. it wasn't the easiest thing i've ever done ;) i free-handed the 'happy' part in cursive and then on birthday i printed out large letters (black ink on black paper so it was very light) and then cut them out.

you might be able to use your cricut to do individual letters and then piece them together?

    1. sorry for the belated reply! this is the 12-18 month size. she is a fairly big girl for her age though. it's definitely more of a top than a dress, though i think they have a dress version as well if you wanted that instead?

As adorable as this idea is, I would like to add another voice. A quick google search will show how dangerous balloons are to small children. One of the first things children tend to do is put the balloon to their face because of their tendency to explore by taste. I have a friend who volunteers in a NICU and she has horror stories about this. It might not be as cute and is probably more expensive, but please -- go with the mylar balloons.

    1. thanks for your concern but the situation was well under control. we would have never left her alone with those balloons, and i made sure she didn't put her mouth anywhere near them. both my husband and i were standing right there as we took a few photos.

Unless there is a disclaimer watermarked on the photo, it is irresponsible to show this. You created this image to promote this image. You want people to copy you and emulate you and applaud you. But your actions are innapropriate. It is impossible for you to be present at all these situations you just created for the sake of cuteness. Would you also do a photoshoot with weapons or chemicals because you are right there? Why are you promoting dangerous activity? Please take this post down.

    2. I absolutely love this photo and idea! Although I had one question, how did you get the sarin gas safely inside the balloons?

    3. driving a car is dangerous. so is riding a bike. playing on the monkey bars. taking a hike. as a matter of fact, life is guaranteed to result in death. I suggest living it fully anyway. balloons at a child's birthday party should be the least of our worries. i suggest you spend more time living yours. go outside. hike a snow-capped mountain. watch a black bear pounce on its prey. listen to a herd of mustangs thunder over a ridge. or head to the streets. watch a mother beg for food. watch a 13-year-old thug shoot his neighbor in the back. watch your brilliant brother kill himself with heroin. then come and tell me what is dangerous. get real. live your life.

Silly question, how did you make the banner, how did you print it from which program? Adobe Illustrator?
